Undergraduate, Graduate and Seminary Students

Presbyterian Study Grant

Presbyterian Study Grant is the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s financial aid program for students planning for careers in the church. The program serves approximately 100 students per year. Because the number of students awarded is significantly less than the number of students enrolled in seminary, there are additional restrictions.

Presbyterian Scholarship for Undergraduates

The Presbyterian Mission Agency provides scholarships to up to 100 college students annually. Eligible applicants will be PC(USA) church members seeking a first associate’s or bachelor’s degree and attending an accredited college or university in the United States full-time in 2024-2025.

Additional Details:

  • Award Amount: $4,000. If the need remains after the scholarship is awarded, students may be considered for additional supplemental aid, including a $2,000 supplemental award for people of color.
  • Deadline: Applications are open from January to May
  • 2024 application period is closed.

Samuel Robinson Award

The Samuel Robinson Award is offered to college juniors and seniors attending a Presbyterian-related college or university. Students must memorize the 107 question and answer pairs in the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Students have up to 18 months from the start of the recitation to complete the recitation.

Additional Details: New for 2024-2025. No essay required! No recitation partner needed! A flashcard memorization app for the Westminster Shorter Catechism is provided as a memorization tool. Students must register to keep track of their progress to completion of the memorization.

Mid Councils, Churches, and Organizations

General Assembly Unassigned Funds

Varied funds support specific mission efforts for sessions, new worshiping communities, presbyteries and synods.

Presbyterian Mental Health Ministry Grant Program

This grant program provides seed money for Presbyterian congregations, mid councils and seminaries to expand existing mental health ministries or start new ones.  Guidelines and applications are available in English, Spanish and Korean.

Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People

Self-Development of People provides grants to those living in poverty to help improve their lives. 

Additional Details:

Teaching the Bible Grant

Provides support for Presbyterian-related schools, colleges and universities in teaching the Bible. Up to five $10,000 grants fund activities ranging from campus-wide engagement through lecture series and Bible study to new curriculum.

Mariners Family Ministry Grant

Program closed for 2024. The application will be available again in February 2025.

Provides up to $2,000 for creating a new family ministry program or expanding an existing program in a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation, new worshiping community, or Presbyterian-related camp or conference center. The gift supporting this grant is a legacy of Presbyterian Mariners.

Mission Program Grants for Worshiping Communities

New Worshiping Communities Seed Grant

The New Worshiping Communities Seed Grant provides $10,000 to help start a 1001 community and supports the first year of ministry.

Additional Details:

New Worshiping Communities Investment Grant

For Seed Grant awardees, this grant supports the next 18 months of ministry with a grant of up to $30,000. Requires dollar matching from a mid council, congregation or in-kind support.

For Seed Grant awardees, this grant supports the next 18 months of ministry with a grant of up to $30,000. Requires dollar matching from a mid council, congregation or in-kind support.

New Worshiping Communities Health Insurance Grant

For new worshiping community leaders, to provide up to $3,000 to purchase health insurance.

New Worshiping Communities: Sam & Helen Walton Award

Provides grants to presbyteries seeking continual congregational transformation and awarded every March to excellent new worshiping communities to help with capital expenses.

Presbytery Grant for Congregational Transformation

The Presbytery Grant for Congregational Transformation provides funding to Presbyteries that can help change congregations. Presbyteries may request a one-time grant of ordinarily up to $50,000.

Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries Grants and Scholarships

Supports scholarships and grants for leaders, congregations and organizations represented in Racial Equity and Women’s Intercultural Ministries.

Katie Cannon Scholarship

The Katie Cannon Scholarship honors the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon, a pioneer and legend in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This scholarship supports Presbyterian women of color, clergywomen, college women and other women with opportunities for leadership and spiritual development and mission opportunities in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Native American Church Property Grants

Grants are available for repairs and improvement to Native American church properties. The fund is administered by and donations to the fund are received by the Presbyterian Foundation (presbyterianfoundation.org/nativeamericanchurches). Grant application forms and grant requests are administered by Rev. Irvin Porter, Native American Church Consultant in Racial Equity and Women’s Intercultural Ministries of PMA. The RE & WIM grants team will evaluate and award grants.
