About the Presbyterian Mission Agency
For more than 200 years, U.S. Presbyterians have responded to the call of Jesus Christ by proclaiming and living out our faith, laboring with love and energy to promote God’s justice in the world.
Presbyterian Mission is the national ministry arm of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the largest of the PC(USA)’s six General Assembly agencies. We joyfully partner with congregations, mid councils, worshiping communities, mission networks and many other groups to nurture and support Christ’s disciples wherever the Holy Spirit leads and the General Assembly directs us.
Presbyterian Mission’s goal is to inspire, equip and connect the church in three main areas: evangelism and discipleship, servant leader formation, and justice and reconciliation. We do this work through four ministry areas:
- Compassion, Peace & Justice
- Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries
- Theology, Formation & Evangelism
- World Mission
In fulfilling these goals, we regularly engage congregations, mid councils and other entities. We also offer additional assistance through several departments, including:
- Research Services, which offers research, statistics and custom surveys and program evaluations;
- Mission Engagement & Support, a comprehensive source for stewardship and discipleship resources and training;
- Communications, which runs the Presbyterian News Service and offers onsite workshops on storytelling, social media, web and digital communications, and a variety of other services that support our mission and ministry.
Compassion, Peace and Justice
Advocating for positive change
The ministries of Compassion, Peace and Justice offer hope to a changing world through the love and power of Jesus Christ. Together with congregations and mid councils, we work to restore communities impacted by disaster; care for God’s creation and support environmental stability; advocate for justice, freedom and human fulfillment; speak the truth fearlessly and in love; promote peace and conflict resolution; labor to support food sovereignty and end hunger; and alleviate poverty in partnership with communities that are economically poor and disadvantaged.
Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries
Ending racism, empowering women, building intercultural communities
In Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries, we engage the church in its mission to become more diverse and inclusive of racial, ethnic, cultural and language groups, and we equip women for leadership in all ministries of the church. We envision a world in which all communities have an equal voice and fully participate in church and society, through intercultural ministries, leadership development, racial justice and reconciliation, women’s empowerment, racial-ethnic and new immigrant church growth, revitalization and transformation.
Theology, Formation & Evangelism
Forming and transforming disciples
The ministries of Theology, Formation & Evangelism work in partnership with the whole church — its congregations, new worshiping communities, mid councils, pastors and members — to form, resource, support and transform faithful disciples. We minister to youth, college students and young adults. We publish extensive resources, including curricula, theological papers, and worship and devotional materials. We equip Presbyterians to build positive relationships with people of other religious traditions. We partner with seminaries and other educational institutions, awarding more than $1 million annually to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.
World Mission
All things are possible
World Mission inspires, equips and connects U.S. Presbyterians and Christians around the world for faithful participation in God’s mission. Always attentive to the movement of the Holy Spirit, we coach and send a network of mission co-workers and Young Adult Volunteers to labor joyfully and passionately with communities and church partners at home and in 50 countries throughout the world.
