Women are a welcome and crucial part of the body of Christ and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which first ordained women as elders in 1930, and as ministers of Word and Sacrament in 1956. The co-moderators of the 223rd General Assembly are women. Ruling Elder Vilmarie Cintrón-Olivieri and the Rev. Cindy Kohlmann were elected to the positions at the 223rd General Assembly in St. Louis in 2018. We welcome, support and affirm their ministry. You can read more about their work here, and you can also read more about the role of women in the church here.

The Presbyterian Mission Agency works around the world to support women and causes that are important to women. We are working to help end the scourge of human trafficking, and provide education to women and children, both nationally and internationally. World Mission co-workers support women in their ministries, including women farmers in Haiti, seeking reconciliation in Rwanda and working for peace in the Philippines. The Presbyterian Hunger Program works to alleviate hunger and its root causes through its many ministries and programs, including Joining Hands, which is its international component.
